Those concerned over school preaching video should report it to authorities - Rabuka

People concerned about the viral video showing a preacher addressing students at a prominent secondary school in Lautoka should report the matter to the appropriate authorities rather than the Prime Minister.

While responding to questions about the incident, Rabuka says those who believe there was any wrongdoing should take their concerns to agencies such as the Police, the Online Safety Commission and other relevant authorities, which would then deal with the matter through the proper government processes.

Rabuka says while the Government establishes laws and policies through Parliament, it is the responsibility of relevant departments and agencies to enforce them.

When asked whether the incident raised constitutional issues, Rabuka questioned the link, saying the focus should remain on whether any laws had been broken.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media that appears to show Christian preacher and content creator Osaslugo addressing students during a school session.

In the footage, Osaslugo appears to single out a student identified as Muslim before telling him that because he does not follow Jesus Christ or Christianity, he will not go to heaven.

The video has attracted widespread criticism online, with many expressing concern that the child was publicly singled out because of his religion and subjected to comments that could be viewed as discriminatory and inappropriate in a school setting.

Questions have also been raised about how the preacher was allowed to address students during school hours and whether the school had approved the session.

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission has since called on the Ministry of Education to investigate the incident promptly, saying any situation where a child feels targeted, pressured, humiliated or excluded because of their religion raises significant human rights and child protection concerns.
