Relief for sugarcane farmers as the third cane payment of $10.91 per tonne has been paid today, three days in advance of the previously announced date of 20 April 2026.
FSC Chairman Nitya Reddy says contrary to the claims of some, this payment is in full compliance with their obligations under the Master Award.
He says the payment includes a Government top-up of $10.07, over and above the actual realised price of $0.84 per tonne.
Nand says despite its highly stressed liquidity position, FSC is directly contributing $7.38 million from its own funds towards this payment.
He says in doing so, for the first time in its history, this gesture goes beyond FSC’s contractual obligations and is made in recognition of the hardships faced by cane farmers.
