Team Fiji’s bowling squad made a perfect start to their Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign, with Rajnesh Prasad producing a historic upset in the men’s singles Section C at the SEC Centre.

Prasad defeated England’s reigning Bowls World Cup champion Sam Tolchard 8-3, 6-7, 1-0 in a thrilling tie-break decider, marking the first time bowls has been contested indoors in the Commonwealth Games history.

The Fijian dominated the opening set 8-3 at the Siti Zaliha Ahmad Rink before Tolchard, a four-time Commonwealth Games medallist competing at his fifth Games, fought back to take the second set 7-6.

Prasad remained composed under pressure, however, securing the decisive single point in the tie-break to claim a memorable victory.

Fiji’s women’s pair also enjoyed a strong opening day, completing a perfect outing for the Pacific side with an 11-1, 4-4 victory over Botswana on the adjacent rink.

The men’s singles campaign continues tomorrow with a second-round clash against Jamaica’s Robert Simpson, while the women’s pair will face Wales tomorrow morning.
