A 39-year-old teacher has been charged with the alleged abduction of a Year 10 student in Taveuni.
Police say the teacher and the student had allegedly been communicating through Messenger about plans to be together.
The alleged communications were discovered by the teacher’s wife, who reported the matter to the school principal.
It is alleged that on the night of the 7th of June, the teacher was found with the student inside his vehicle near her home.
The matter was subsequently reported to Police, and an investigation was launched.
The teacher has now been formally charged with one count of abduction.
He is expected to appear in the Taveuni Magistrates Court today.
