TC Urmil upgraded to Category 2; no direct threat to Fiji
Tropical Cyclone Urmil has been upgraded to Category 2 this morning, however, no direct land threat has been reported at this stage.

Be prepared for heavy rain, flooding and strong winds if you are living in flood prone areas.

The Nadi Weather Office says the centre of the cyclone was located about 350km southeast of Port Vila or about 810km west-southwest of Nadi at 9am.

They say it is currently moving southeast away from Vanuatu at a speed of about 15km/h and is expected to remain over open waters to the southwest of Nadi.

The Weather Office continues to monitor the system.

Meanwhile, a Heavy Rain Warning is now in force for the Western Division, the Yasawa Islands and Mamanuca Islands, Kadavu Province and nearby smaller islands.

A Heavy Rain Alert is also in force for Macuata Province and the Northern Division of Bua Province.

The Weather Office says localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

People are urged to remain vigilant.
