Creating employment opportunities, supporting local families and improving access to goods and services in Taveuni remain key priorities for Sun City Supermarket Managing Director Rohil Chaudhari, as he continues to grow his business on the island.
Chaudhari operates three Sun City Supermarket stores in Wairiki, Naqara and Matei, providing employment for 38 full-time staff, with women making up approximately 70 percent of the workforce.
He says creating jobs for local people is an important part of his business, as it also helps support their families and the wider community.
Chaudhari says he believes women are capable of taking on important roles in the business, and is proud of the strong team of women working across his stores.
He says building the business has not been easy, but adapting to change and receiving strong support from the community have helped his operations grow over the years.
To improve access to goods and services, Chaudhari has also invested in the company's own transport system, including two 12-wheeler trucks and a freezer truck, to move goods from Suva to Taveuni.
He says this helps save time and allows the business to offer customers products and services similar to those available on the mainland.
The business has also introduced a fully electric vehicle for its operations around Taveuni.
Chaudhari says the electric vehicle is the company's first step towards reducing its carbon footprint, improving efficiency and lowering operating costs.
He says his focus is to continue introducing new ideas, technology and services that benefit his customers while creating more opportunities for the people of Taveuni.
