A Taveuni businessman is calling for improvements to mobile network services on the island, saying poor connectivity has affected businesses and residents for the past five to six years.

This was highlighted to fijivillage News by Suncity Supermarket owner Rohil Chaudhari, who says he has raised the issue several times with Vodafone Fiji, Telecom Fiji and Fiji Grid Connection Limited, but nothing has been done.

Chaudhari says despite having a mobile tower only a few hundred metres from his supermarket, the network remains unreliable.

He says people often have to step outside buildings just to make a phone call, while calls regularly drop or fail, even when phones show full signal.

Chaudhari says the poor network also affects businesses, with EFTPOS transactions sometimes failing because of communication errors.

He says customers travelling from different parts of the island are often unable to contact the supermarket to check whether products are available before making the trip.

Chaudhari says reliable communication is essential for businesses and residents, and he hopes the relevant authorities will address the issue.

He says the people of Taveuni deserve the same standard of mobile network service as those living on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

fijivillage News has sent questions to Vodafone Fiji, and Telecom Fiji. We are awaiting their response.
