Tailevu may be hundreds of kilometres away from home, but the players have been reminded that support for the team extends beyond provincial boundaries after members of the Tailevu community living in Taveuni visited them in camp.
The Tailevu rugby team is currently in camp at Wairiki as they prepare for their Skipper Cup clash against Taveuni tomorrow.
People with connections to Tailevu through their parents, grandparents, marriage or vasu ties visited the players, bringing a little piece of home to the team.
Members of the Nadroga-Navosa community living in Taveuni, along with traditional leaders and women from Taveuni, also joined the gathering.
The team says the visit showed that the bonds of the vanua extend beyond rugby and the jersey, with people continuing to support the players even when they are far from home.
They also thanked the Dra VakaTailevu community residing in Nayavu and Wairiki, as well as Nadroga-Navosa Taveuni, for their support.
The team also acknowledged Merridian Store and the Niumataiwalu family from Dre’eti, Qamea, for their contributions.
Tailevu says the support has helped the players remain grounded and united as they continue preparations for this weekend's match.
Tailevu is currently third on the Skipper Cup points table with 38 points, while Taveuni is seventh with 25 points.
Nadi moved to the top of the table following their 27-23 victory last Saturday.
Tailevu will take on Taveuni at the Wairiki School Grounds this Saturday.
