Springbok Women hold first Fiji training at Albert Park for Fijiana clash

The Springbok Women's XV held their first training session this morning at Albert Park in Suva as they prepare for their two-Test series against the Vodafone Fijiana XV.

This marks the first time the South African women's team has toured Fiji.

The two teams have met once before, at the 2022 Women's Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, where Fiji claimed a 21-17 victory.

The Test matches are part of a short tour aimed at building experience and providing quality competition for both sides.

Team manager Thandiswa Nxomani says the tour is an important opportunity for the Springbok Women to push themselves outside their comfort zone by adapting to different conditions and time zones, which will be valuable preparation ahead of the Rugby World Cup in Australia.

Nxomani says Fiji will be a formidable opponent, especially after the Fijiana's recent appearance in the Super W Grand Final.

She adds that South Africa is well aware of the exciting brand of rugby Fiji plays and the challenge of overcoming the hosts on home soil.

According to World Rugby ranking, South Africa is on 10th place while Fiji is sitting on 13th place.

The Springbok Women will take on the Fijiana at 2pm at the HFC Bank Stadium this Saturday, with the second Test scheduled for 1pm at Churchill Park, Lautoka, next Saturday.
