A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rain is now in force for the north-western half and interior of Viti Levu, from Nadi through to Rakiraki, including the interior of Ba and Ra, as well as the interior of Nadroga and Navosa from Toga Village to Bukuya through Navala Village.

The Nadi Weather Office says thunderstorms have developed over the interior of Viti Levu and are expected to become severe as they drift over the north-western parts of the island.

Heavy rain is expected over these areas and conditions are forecast to continue until tonight.

Possible impacts include flash flooding in low-lying areas, heavy downpours associated with severe thunderstorms, and frequent and dangerous lightning strikes.

Members of the public are urged to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, avoid walking, cycling or driving through floodwaters, unplug electrical appliances and computers if lightning is present, minimise body height and move quickly to safe shelter such as a building or house if caught in an open area during lightning activity, remain indoors away from windows, and continue to monitor weather conditions.
