Police stress community partnership as key to preventing crime
Fiji Police Force
Community policing is a proactive approach that focuses on preventing crime through strong partnerships with the public. Police say the three core principles of community policing are preventing crime by being proactive, earning public support, and gaining that support by respecting community values and principles. They say officers regularly engage with communities across the country, often working early mornings, travelling long distances and spending long hours to strengthen police-community networks. Police say both the public and the Force have an important role in keeping communities safe through collaboration, engagement and shared responsibility.
They add that public trust and confidence in the Police can only be built through positive collaboration and ongoing engagement with communities.
