More than 5,600 plants believed to be marijuana have been seized by the Northern Division Operations Sasamaki team, as Police also confirm that 76 parcels recovered from maritime islands have all tested positive for cocaine.

Police say the marijuana plants were discovered in the Qaravutu farming area following an operation.

The plants have been seized and are in Police custody awaiting forensic analysis.

One suspect has been taken in for questioning as investigations continue.

Police say the 76 cocaine parcels have been recovered from the Lau Group, Qamea, Kadavu, and Beqa.

Meanwhile, officers in Savusavu were deployed on Tuesday to recover a clear plastic package containing a white substance believed to be illicit drugs after it washed ashore on Namena Island.

The package was recovered by Crime Scene Investigation officers, while the Criminal Investigations Department is leading the investigation.

Police say they appreciate the prompt reporting of these discoveries by members of the public.

They are continuing to work with the Australian Federal Police to determine the source and intended destination of the illicit drugs.

Police have also acknowledged traditional and community leaders for encouraging people to report such discoveries quickly, enabling officers to recover the packages without delay.

Members of the public are urged to call 1681 if they discover any suspicious parcels and to avoid handling the packages.
