Police investigate online allegations involving senior Govt official

The Fiji Police Force says allegations circulating online against a senior member of Government regarding alleged links to a person of interest remain under active investigation.

According to Police, the senior Government official voluntarily came forward and lodged a report in late March 2026 to allow investigators to determine the truth of the claims being made.

They say an investigation was subsequently initiated and is currently being handled by senior investigators within the Criminal Investigations Department.

The Police Force is again calling on social media users to exercise caution and responsibility online, warning against posts that malign individuals based on rumours rather than verified facts.

Police say while it recognises and respects the right to freedom of expression and speech, people must also act responsibly when using social media platforms.

They are urging members of the public to carefully discern the information they consume and share online, stressing the importance of relying on evidence and facts rather than rumours.

Authorities also emphasised that investigations take time and should be allowed to proceed without interference or external influence.

Police say everyone deserves a fair opportunity to respond to allegations made against them, adding that the appropriate avenue pursued in this case was to have the matter investigated formally by Police.
