PM welcomes US-Iran agreement and says lower fuel prices could bring relief to Fiji
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, saying it is a positive step towards reducing tensions and promoting dialogue at a time of heightened global uncertainty.

In a statement, Rabuka says the easing of tensions has also contributed to a welcome reduction in global oil prices.

He says for fuel dependent economies such as Fiji, which have borne the significant burden of elevated fuel costs and the resulting pressures on the cost of living, this development comes as a relief.

The Prime Minister says throughout this period of uncertainty, the Fijian Government has worked diligently to secure fuel supplies, provide relief measures to our people and safeguard our national interests to ensure the continued functioning of essential services and economic activity.
Rabuka says lower fuel prices will help ease pressures on businesses, reduce operational costs, and provide much needed relief to families who have been affected by rising living expenses.

He says they remain hopeful that continued stability in global markets will support economic recovery and resilience, particularly for small island developing states that are especially vulnerable to external shocks.
Rabuka adds that Fiji reaffirms its commitment to peace, international cooperation and multilateralism.
