PM to lead sugar industry consultations with farmers in Vanua Levu

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will lead Parliament's Special Committee on the Sugar Industry as it begins public consultations in Vanua Levu today, meeting directly with sugarcane farmers to discuss the future of Fiji's sugar industry.

The consultations will give farmers the opportunity to share their experiences, raise challenges affecting their farms, and put forward practical solutions to help revive and strengthen the industry.

The first consultation will be held from 2pm to 4pm today at the Sanatan Hall in Seaqaqa.

A second consultation will take place from 10am to 12pm tomorrow at the Vanua Levu Arya Samaj Hall in Namara followed by a tour of the Labasa Sugar Mill from 12.10pm to 1pm.

Farmers are encouraged to participate in these consultations to raise their concerns and also come up with solutions.

The Coalition Government says it remains committed to working alongside farmers to improve productivity, strengthen the sugar industry, protect livelihoods and secure a more sustainable future for cane-growing communities across Fiji.
