Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, describing him as a distinguished leader, devoted servant and a proud son of Fiji.

Speaking during the funeral service at Albert Park this morning, Rabuka says Ratu Epeli would be remembered most for his calmness, sense of humour and his genuine care for people.

Rabuka says the nation gathers in solemn respect to honour a man who embodied many roles with dignity, a chief, soldier, diplomat, mentor, husband and father.

The Prime Minister says that even beyond his military and political career, Ratu Epeli remained grounded in values of humility, integrity and unity.

He says Ratu Epeli carried Fiji’s noble banner blue with pride until his final days, serving the people with unwavering commitment and compassion that extended far beyond titles and ceremony.

Rabuka says that throughout his life, Ratu Epeli upheld the highest standards of leadership.

Rabuka says he believed true leadership was not about authority, but about leading by example, inspiring loyalty, discipline, and pride among those he served.

Rabuka also acknowledged Ratu Epeli’s contributions to international peacekeeping.

He concluded by praying for eternal peace for Ratu Epeli, honouring a legacy defined by service, leadership and unwavering dedication to Fiji.

Ratu Epeli's body will be laid to rest at the sacred burial grounds in Bau.
