Pita Burese fulfills goal of breaking 23-year-old senior boys high jump record

Pita Burese of Sacred Heart College delivered a standout performance at the 2026 Coca-Cola Games, not only claiming gold in the Senior Boys High Jump but also breaking a 23-year-old record set by Marist Brothers High School’s Antonio Rahiman.

Burese recorded a remarkable leap of 2.10 metres.

Rahiman had set the record in 2003 with a 2.09m jump.

Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Burese said breaking the record had always been his goal, and seeing it come to fruition was a proud moment in his sporting journey.

He dedicated his gold medal to his family back home for their unwavering support, as well as to his teachers who played a key role in guiding him throughout his preparation.

Despite his achievement, Burese says he remains grounded and focused on his future.

The Year 13 student adds that he wants to continue his studies and pursue further education at Fiji National University, where he hopes to major in engineering.
