Paddle for Hope reaches Tagage Village on Day 5, pushes fight against single-use plastics

The Paddle for Hope team has reached Tagage Village on Day 5 of its more than 500-kilometre journey around Viti Levu, taking with them a message that protecting Fiji's ocean begins with the actions people take in their homes and communities.

The Paddle for Hope started its journey from the National Sailing Centre in Suva, travelling to the Suva Foreshore, before continuing to Muaivuso.

The team was in Togoru and Navua on Day 2 of its journey before heading to Rovadrau, the Pearl Resort and Lomary on Day 3.

The team was in Galoa and Navutulevu yesterday, where they were welcomed by villagers and given an opportunity to explain how single-use plastics can enter the food chain and potentially affect people's health and wellbeing.

The team also thanked the people of Navutulevu Village for their hospitality and for providing a platform to share the message behind the campaign.

This is part of the SUP Against SUP initiative, which stands for Stand Up Paddling Against Single-Use Plastics, and uses the Paddle for Hope journey to promote cleaner oceans and healthier communities.

The Ministry of Environment also delivered a presentation during the visit, focusing on recycling and waste management.

The Paddle for Hope team says the journey continues to encourage communities to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics and take greater responsibility for protecting the environment.
