The Office of the Leader of the Opposition notes with serious concern the circulation of false and misleading information on social media regarding statements allegedly made in court by an individual, Imran Khan, also known as “King Khan”, and will be lodging a report with the Police Cyber Crime Unit.
The Opposition says claims circulating online stating that the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, and Parveen Bala were interviewed by the media and provided responses to these allegations are false.
The Office says neither the Leader of the Opposition nor Parveen Bala has been interviewed or made any comment on this matter.
It further says reliable information confirms that the remarks now being attributed to court proceedings were not made in court in the first instance.
The Office adds that the continued sharing of such claims amounts to the spread of misinformation and creates unnecessary confusion among the public.
The Opposition says they condemn in the strongest terms the circulation of false information, particularly where it misrepresents court proceedings and attributes statements or actions that did not occur.
It says such conduct is irresponsible and undermines public confidence in both the judicial process and public institutions.
They add that those individuals responsible for originating and spreading this misinformation will be held to account.
The Opposition is urging members of the public to exercise caution and responsibility when engaging with information online and to refrain from sharing unverified claims.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan's counsel, Dinati Lawyers, says that no such statement was made by their client in court during the bail proceedings, as alleged.
They say this can be confirmed by court records and at no time did Khan make any statement in court.
