Cometh the moment, cometh the man.
Recalled Sydney Roosters fullback James Tedesco produced an incredible try in the 78th minute to seal the greatest comeback in State of Origin history as the NSW Blues stunned the Queensland Maroons 22-20.
It came after Queensland fullback Kalyn Ponga was controversially sent off in the 57th minute, with the Maroons leading 20-6 at that point.
Ponga collected Tolu Koula high, with the Blues winger later failing his head injury assessment.
The Blues, who trailed 20-0 after 16 minutes, scored 22 unanswered points with debutant Ethan Strange producing a game-defining tackle in the first half to force an error from Cameron Munster.
That led to NSW’s first try of the game, with Strange then scoring the Blues’ second and from there it was the big names who stood tall as Nathan Cleary kicked a 40-20 before he scored to reduce the deficit to 20-16.
Tedesco then soared above Queensland defenders in pouring conditions to steal the win.
