National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says the NFP will not enter into any agreement, pact or understanding for a post-election coalition ahead of the 2026 General Election.

Speaking to more than 200 branch executives and party workers at the party’s Working Committee meeting in Rakiraki, Professor Prasad says the decision was made by the Management Board during its meeting on April 13th and will be ratified by the Working Committee.

He clarified that the decision does not affect the party’s current Memorandum of Understanding with the People’s Alliance or the existing coalition agreement between the NFP, People’s Alliance and SODELPA.
Professor Prasad says the coalition remains intact and that the parties will continue to govern together until the end of the current term.

He noted that under the current electoral system, each party will contest the election independently.

Professor Prasad says the NFP’s objective is to help form an inclusive government that is of, for and by the people following the election.
He added that the party aims to be the leading force in any post-election arrangement.

Commenting on the upcoming election, the former Finance Minister says elections are a battle of ideas and the effective communication of a vision.

He says elections are won on the ground, not through fake social media posts, adding that both he and the party have been, and will continue to be, targets of misinformation in the months ahead.
Professor Prasad described those who spread false information as faceless cowards hiding behind fake identities.

He says the strong turnout at the meeting was evidence that the NFP is gaining momentum and positioning itself as a leading force after the next election.
