Neymar’s hopes of featuring at the FIFA World Cup 2026 have been boosted after Brazil confirmed the forward is making “good progress” in his recovery from a calf injury.

The Brazilian Football Confederation says a recent scan showed encouraging signs, with the 34-year-old continuing his recovery under the national team’s medical staff.

Neymar was initially ruled out for two to three weeks after suffering a grade-two muscle tear last month and has already missed Brazil’s recent warm-up matches against Panama and Egypt.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star, who has scored 79 goals in 128 appearances for Brazil, is aiming to feature at a fourth World Cup.

Meanwhile, the FIFA World Cup 2026 begins this Friday and Brazil will play their opening group match against Morocco this Sunday at 10am.

The side will then face Haiti next Saturday at 12.30pm before meeting Scotland the following Thursday at 10am.
