Access to safe and clean drinking water will improve for families in Nakorovou Village in Ra, as a new borehole project will directly benefit the Seventh Day Adventist Church and six nearby households.

The project, funded under the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs’ Multi-Ethnic Grant Program, is expected to provide reliable access to safe drinking water and address long-standing challenges faced by the community.

Residents have faced years of hardship due to the lack of safe drinking water, often relying on transporting water from nearby rivers using horses.

While receiving the grant, Monika Naiyala expressed her gratitude to the Ministry for supporting the initiative.

She says the borehole will benefit the church and six households in the village, adding that access to safe and clean drinking water has been an ongoing issue for many years.

Naiyala also highlighted that the absence of safe water has had serious health implications for the community.

She says the area has been identified as a high-risk zone for leptospirosis and typhoid, with past cases resulting in severe illness and loss of life.

Meanwhile, 45 communities across Rakiraki have received funding support through the program, which is aimed at improving livelihoods and strengthening grassroots development.

While handing over the grants, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh, highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that all funded projects deliver meaningful outcomes for communities.

He says they will continue to closely monitor all funded projects to ensure transparency and accountability.
