Sydney Roosters star Mark Nawaqanitawase is preparing to play in his first NRL grand final against Newcastle, adding another major milestone to a career spanning rugby union, sevens and rugby league.
The 26-year-old has already represented the Wallabies at the Rugby World Cup, competed at the Olympics, played for the Kangaroos and won a State of Origin series.
His mother, Fiona Tovehi, says she initially strongly opposed his move from rugby union to the Roosters in 2024 because she believed rugby league was too dangerous.
However, she now says the switch has transformed him as a player and believes league is made for her son.
Nawaqanitawase is expected to return to rugby union for a two-season stint in Japan and could push for a Wallabies place at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
The Sydney Roosters will play the Newcastle Knights at 8.30pm tomorrow.
