More than two decades after falling heartbreakingly short in a Fiji FACT final, Nasinu FC will head into next month’s BiC Fiji FACT in Labasa hoping to finally create history and lift its first-ever Fiji FACT title.
The tournament will carry extra meaning for the district as Nasinu celebrates its 50th anniversary next month, giving players and supporters even more motivation heading into one of Fiji football’s biggest competitions.
Nasinu, known throughout Fiji football as the "Giant Killers", has once again secured qualification despite operating with limited financial resources and competing against some of the country’s stronger and better-funded districts.
Under the leadership of President Jagindar Singh, the side currently sits sixth on the Extra Premier League standings with 14 points after 10 matches, recording four wins, two draws and four losses this season.
Singh says qualifying for the first major tournament of the year is already a proud moment for the district and praised the commitment shown by the players despite the challenges faced as a smaller association.
He says the Fiji FACT represents an opportunity to create history, especially with the district still chasing its first title.
Nasinu came closest in 2002 when the side reached the final against Lautoka at Churchill Park before suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 penalty shootout loss.
Singh says the team understands what the tournament means to its supporters and the motivation is there for the players to give everything for the district.
The official pool draw for the tournament will be conducted this Saturday.
The 2026 BiC Fiji FACT pool matches will be held from 19th to 21st June at Subrail Park in Labasa, while the semi-finals and final will be played the following weekend.
