A farmer from Nabalabala Village in Ra is stepping up his aquaculture venture, aiming to boost income and support food security in his community.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry says Mario Keni has begun developing a new fishpond as he transitions from small-scale to semi-commercial fish farming, marking a significant milestone in his agricultural journey.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new pond was carried out this week by the Ministry of Fisheries West team in partnership with Dynamic Civil Workz, reflecting ongoing efforts to support rural farmers and strengthen livelihoods.

The Ministry says Keni’s progress further highlights his recognition as a two-time recipient of the Food Security Programme, demonstrating his commitment and consistency in developing the sector.

Officials say initiatives like this play an important role in empowering local farmers, improving food security, and creating sustainable income opportunities in rural communities.

The Ministry says the expansion is expected to not only benefit Keni and his family but also contribute to increased fish production in the Ra area.
