More than 37,000 Year 5 and Year 7 students across Fiji will sit the 2026 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA) from tomorrow.
The Ministry of Education says the national assessment is designed to measure and strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
The assessment will begin with the Literacy paper tomorrow, followed by the Numeracy paper on Wednesday, while catch-up sessions will be held on Thursday and Friday.
A total of 17,945 Year 5 students will sit the assessment in 717 centres, while 19,336 Year 7 students will participate across 720 centres.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has encouraged students to approach the assessment with confidence and give their best effort.
Radrodro says as students prepare for and approach the 2026 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment, they should remember that the exercise is a noteworthy turning point, marking not only the result of their determination and perseverance but also a stepping stone towards enhancing their literacy and numeracy skills.
The Minister also called on parents and guardians to continue supporting their children throughout the assessment period and reminded Heads of Schools to ensure LANA is conducted in accordance with the approved guidelines.
The Ministry says the results of the assessment will help guide intervention programmes to better support students' learning needs and strengthen literacy and numeracy outcomes across Fiji's primary schools.
