Moana upset Brumbies 21-19 in final round to end season

An undermanned Moana Pasifika have capped off their potential final match with a stirring victory, upsetting the finals-bound ACT Brumbies 21-19.

However, there were mixed emotions as players celebrated a rare win before joining staff to mark the occasion of the club's farewell game and expected demise with an emotionally charged hymn.

The Super Rugby Pacific club was placed into liquidation on Monday after its current owners announced on April 15th that they would not continue to fund the franchise beyond 2026.

Unless a saviour emerges to rescue the club, which was only established in 2022, it will fold, and the competition will shrink to 10 teams in 2027.

Moana relished the occasion at GIO Stadium last night and snapped a 12-game losing streak to avoid a record-equalling 13th loss.

In other results, the Western Force defeated the Waratahs 31-25, while the Chiefs thrashed the Blues 59-34.
