The Methodist Church in Fiji has called for a review of its Bilateral Relationship Agreement with the California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, while reaffirming their commitment to the long-standing partnership.

Speaking at the 178th California-Nevada Annual Conference in the United States, Methodist Church in Fiji President Reverend Dr Semisi Turagavou says the partnership has been built over many years through faith, mission and service.

Turagavou thanked the California-Nevada Conference for supporting Fijian Methodist communities in the United States through worship, leadership development and ministry.

He says changing pastoral issues, including different views on marriage and human sexuality among some Fijian communities in the United States, has created new challenges.

Turagavou says the Church has requested a review of the agreement to provide greater clarity on pastoral care, church leadership and responsibilities for Fijian Methodist communities.

He stressed that the review does not mean the partnership is ending, but is intended to address current issues while maintaining a strong relationship between the two churches.

Turagavou also reaffirmed the Methodist Church in Fiji's commitment to their own teachings, and called for continued dialogue based on mutual respect, understanding and Christian love.
