France captain Kylian Mbappé has become the first player to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot twice after finishing as the top scorer at the 2026 tournament.
The 27-year-old scored 10 goals in eight matches to edge Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who finished with eight goals.
Mbappé also won the Golden Boot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after scoring eight goals, making him the first player to claim the award at back-to-back World Cups.
His 10 goals also made him the first player to score double figures in a single World Cup since Germany's Gerd Müller scored 10 goals in 1970.
Mbappé has also become the all-time leading goalscorer in men's FIFA World Cup history with 22 goals, one more than Messi.
Despite scoring twice in France's 6-4 loss to England in the third-place playoff, Mbappé said he would have preferred reaching the final instead of winning the Golden Boot.
He says while the award would add to his legacy after retirement, his focus had been on helping France reach the World Cup final.
Meanwhile, newly crowned world champions Spain also swept the major individual honours.
Goalkeeper Unai Simón won the Golden Glove award after an outstanding tournament in which he produced a series of crucial saves, including in the knockout stages and the World Cup final to help Spain keep a clean sheet against Argentina.
