Man who allegedly took pensioner's ATM card remanded

The man who is alleged to have stolen an elderly man’s ATM card in Suva City has been remanded in custody.

Niraj Prasad is charged with one account of theft for taking Malakai Kauwale's ATM card on Monday.

He appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele this afternoon.

Prasad also waived his right to counsel.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Salote Bola objected to bail, as the accused has two previous cases of theft and one of absconding bail.

Magistrate Ratakele told Prasad that he will be remanded while he makes a formal bail application.

His case will be called again next Monday.
