Man killed in shooting in Melbourne's inner north

A man unfortunately lost his life last night following a fatal shooting in Melbourne's inner north.

Homicide squad detectives are investigating the matter.

Police from a nearby station arrived at the scene after hearing gunshots near the intersection of Brunswick and King William Streets in Fitzroy shortly after midnight.

When officers responded, a man was found with life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services attended to him, but he died at the scene.

He has not been identified yet.

A car allegedly fled the scene before police arrived, and no arrests have been made.

Police are searching for at least one offender.

Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
