Man gets 23-month jail term, with 12 months suspended, for fatal punch
Inoke Qaloloma will serve 23 months in prison, with 12 months suspended for three years, after punching a 43-year-old man at Vugalei Settlement in Lami, resulting in the man's death.

He was sentenced to three years, with 12 months suspended and a month deducted for serving time in remand.

This means Qaloloma will serve 23 months' imprisonment. If he reoffends within the three-year suspension period after his release, he could be ordered to serve the remaining 12 months of his sentence.

Both Qaloloma and the deceased were intoxicated when the incident occurred in 2024.

While sentencing the man, Suva High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says the death of the victim had caused significant distress to the deceased's family.

Justice Rajasinghe considered Qaloloma's guilty plea and previous good character as mitigating factors.
