Current maritime patrol efforts in the Western Viti Levu waters will be further boosted with the re-deployment of the M.V. Liga ni lawa, strengthening coordinated efforts with relevant stakeholders in enhancing the security and safety of communities and visitors to Fiji.

The maritime enforcement operations across the Western Division waters, include the Mamanuca and Malolo Island groups, and forms part of the Government’s ongoing national campaign against illicit drugs and transnational crime, in response to community calls for action.

Key focus areas for the WATERPOL are rapid response to search and rescue and tourism safety incidents, enhancing enforcement of maritime safety regulations, and the protection of ecosystems and marine protected areas.

The Fiji Police Force say they are reinforcing coordinated approaches in safeguarding our waters, renewing calls for community support in reporting suspicious maritime activities to the Fiji Police Force toll-free number on 1681.

They say securing Fiji’s maritime domain requires holistic approaches for the sake of local communities and tourism operations.
