The captain and crew of Goundar Shipping's Lomaiviti Princess 12 have been honoured for their swift response in rescuing six medical personnel from Lakeba last week, ensuring their safe return after more than 30 hours at sea.

A traditional presentation of acknowledgement was held to honour the courage, professionalism and selfless service shown by the captain and crew, whose timely response ensured the six medical workers were brought back safely.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Mosese Bulitavu, together with staff from the Office of the Commissioner Eastern Division, joined Health Minister Atonio Lalabalavu at the ceremony.

The event also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between Government ministries and the private sector in responding to emergencies.

The Ministry says effective coordination between agencies helps overcome logistical challenges and ensures essential services continue to reach rural and maritime communities when they are needed most.

It has also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships that enhance emergency response capabilities and support the delivery of essential services across Fiji's maritime regions.
