Colombia made a winning return to the World Cup by defeating debutants Uzbekistan 3-1.
After failing to qualify for the 2022 competition, Colombia secured a victory at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City to move top of Group K.
Colombia defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 in their opening FIFA World Cup match, with Daniel Munoz of Crystal Palace, Luis Diaz of Liverpool and Jaminton Campaz of Rosario Central getting on the scoresheet.
Uzbekistan equalised through Abbosbek Fayzullaev of CSKA Moscow after Munoz's opener, but Diaz restored Colombia's lead before Campaz sealed the win late in the match. Uzbekistan threatened to level the scores again but could not find a way past the Colombian defence.
In other matches today, Portugal and DR Congo finished the match in a 1-all draw, England beat Croatia 4-2 while Ghana beat Panama 1-0.
Coming up tomorrow, Czechia will take on South Africa in a Group A clash at 4am, followed by Switzerland facing Bosnia and Herzegovina in a Group B match at 7am.
