Argentina football icon Lionel Messi and his family have bid farewell to his father, Jorge Messi, who died at the age of 68.
A private funeral was held at the El Prado cemetery on the outskirts of Rosario in Santa Fe Province.
Fans have also shown their support for the Messi family, leaving flowers and messages outside the cemetery.
Messi’s teammates rallied around their captain following news of his father’s passing.
The cause of Jorge Messi’s death has not been officially disclosed.
Concerns over his health emerged during the FIFA World Cup in June, when Messi’s family confirmed that he was receiving medical treatment and called for privacy amid speculation about his condition.
Messi had also spoken during the tournament about going through difficult days because of a situation outside football.
