A Lautoka resident is raising safety concerns about an exposed metal piece fixed into the pavement near the entrance of a children's park after his daughter injured her knee when she tripped and fell.
Kamal Kant Prasad says the incident happened at around 4.30pm on Saturday as he was leaving the park with his daughter to go to his parked vehicle.
Prasad says his daughter tripped and hurt her knee while walking along the footpath.
He says the exposed piece is the bottom portion used to secure a road sign into the concrete and is less than a foot tall.
Prasad is concerned that the hazard remains near the entrance of the children's park, which is visited daily by children and their parents.
He is calling for the relevant authorities to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent other children and members of the public from getting injured.
Meanwhile, Lautoka City Council Head of Services Shalend Singh says the Council was made aware of the exposed metal hazard this morning and has notified the Fiji Roads Authority to address the issue.
Singh says the signboard was installed by FRA but was later vandalised.
He says the Council is also compiling a list of safety hazards across the city, including exposed metal, exposed gully grating and open manhole lids, to bring to the attention of the relevant agencies.
FRA is yet to respond to our questions.
