Konrote to showcase 15-piece Galaxy Rendezvous collection at Style Fiji this Saturday

A collection inspired by childhood memories of stargazing and the beauty of the night sky will take centre stage when local fashion designer Aisea Konrote showcases 15 pieces at this Saturday’s Style Fiji Fashion Show.

Konrote, owner of Hefrani Designs, says his collection, titled Galaxy Rendezvous, draws inspiration from this year's theme, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and his Rotuman heritage.

Konrote says Hefrani is a Rotuman name meaning morning star, which inspired him to explore the galaxy and incorporate memories of his childhood into his designs.

Konrote says growing up on a farm in Nadi gave him a special connection to the night sky, recalling how he would lie on rocks at night and look up at the stars.

He says these childhood experiences have been woven into the 15-piece collection, which combines his personal story with the creativity and artistic expression of fashion.

While acknowledging the commercial side of fashion, Konrote says he also makes room for couture pieces that allow him to experiment creatively and enjoy the design process.

He describes Style Fiji as a significant platform for local designers, praising the team behind the event and the sense of unity among the seven local designers participating this year.

Konrote says he aims to present pieces that audiences may not have seen before on the runway, particularly in Fiji, and believes the event provides an opportunity for designers to challenge their creativity.

As Style Fiji celebrates its 15th anniversary, this year’s event is also placing a strong focus on supporting two charitable organisations making a difference in communities across Fiji.

The two beneficiaries are Fiji Network Plus (FJN+), which empowers people living with HIV through support, advocacy and community engagement, and Fiji Mobility Alliance, which advocates for inclusive public transport, improved accessibility and greater opportunities for people living with mobility challenges.

Konrote is encouraging members of the public to support the charitable event, saying the experience goes beyond fashion and brings people together for a good cause.

He also highlighted the Style Fiji market day, encouraging those unable to attend the evening fashion show to visit the market at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau to support local vendors and experience the event.
