Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson says players must take greater responsibility for their preparation and performances if they want to secure places in the Fiji Water Flying Fijians squad ahead of the upcoming Nations Championship campaign.

Speaking after the Drua’s 50-35 loss to the NSW Waratahs at HFC Bank Stadium, Jackson says competition for national selection would become increasingly difficult following discussions surrounding the wider Flying Fijians squad.

Jackson revealed there had recently been communication regarding a group of around 50 players being considered for Flying Fijians selection.

He says several players still needed to “put their hand up” through consistent performances and proper preparation at Super Rugby level.

The Flying Fijians will begin their inaugural Nations Championship campaign against Wales in Cardiff on July 5th before taking on England in Liverpool on July 12th and then play Scotland in Edinburgh on July 19th.

Meanwhile, the Drua have dropped down to 10th place with 20 points.

The Fijian Drua will travel to Perth to play the Western Force on Saturday at 9.35pm.

In other games, the Crusaders host the Chiefs at 7.05pm Friday, the Waratahs will meet the Brumbies at 9.35pm, Moana Pasifika will face the Reds at 4.35pm Saturday, while the Hurricanes play the Highlanders at 7.05pm.
