Inter-Agency Exercise Bougainville 2026, a principal brigade-level field training exercise, is currently being conducted in the Western Division until 28th August.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces says the exercise is being held under the theme “From Strategy to Action, Defending Fiji’s People, Borders and Future”.
They say the exercise has transitioned to Deployable Condition 5 (DEPCON 5) – Asymmetric Conflict with Counter-Insurgency at the Nausori Highlands Training Area.
RFMF says the transition from DEPCON 1 (Internal Security) to DEPCON 5 began on Sunday, 16th August and is expected to end this Sunday.
They say this phase simulates the escalation of asymmetric conflict scenarios, including increased looting, protests and road blockades, as well as scenarios involving civilians in affected areas being armed.
RFMF says as a Field Training Exercise, personnel are being deployed to test inter-agency response and coordination towards counter-insurgency operations.
They say the exercise also involves reconnaissance missions and coordination with the Fiji Police Force.
RFMF adds the exercise is aimed at strengthening operational readiness and validating inter-agency cooperation in responding to complex national security challenges.
