i-Taukei benefitting from Govt. initiatives compared to the past - PM
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the i-Taukei are well protected in the constitution and are also benefitting from many government initiatives compared to the past.

While speaking at the opening of the Qelekuro Village Water System in Tailevu in the last hour, Bainimarama says some politicians are still trying to mislead people that i-Taukei rights are not well protected and Christianity is under threat.

Bainimarama says he trusts people’s intelligence to know that these claims are incorrect.

The government has built a new dam and water systems at a cost of $90,000 for more than 200 villagers of Qelekuro.

The new dam will provide 193,000 litres of water a day compared to the current demand of 68,000 litres a day.

Bainimarama says the project has been fast tracked as a matter of urgency after the Ministry of Health warned about the health risks of drinking from the old water supply in Qelekuro.

He says he took a personal interest to ensure that this is done.

Bainimarama says the days of worrying about water borne diseases is over for the village as they now have a safe and secure water supply system.
