Hong Kong 7s: Fiji claims 5th place after beating Australia 26-10

The Fiji Airways Men's National side has claimed 5th place at the HSBC Hong Kong 7s which is the first World Champions tournament, by holding off Australia 26-10.

Tomasi Vuluma scored first after receiving an inside pass from Kavekini Tanivanuakula, who dummied the Australian defence before running it up the side.

Australia quickly replied through Aden Ekanayake after spreading the ball out wide, making it 5-7.

Douglas Daveta was shown a yellow card by the ref after he threw the ball away when the ball was turned over to the opposition.

Filipe Sauturaga ripped the ball from Maurice Longbottom and passed to Tanivanuakula to run it up the middle and score.

Fiji led FIJ 14-5 at halftime.

Daveta scored as soon as he returned to the field of play after an intercept from Joseva Talacolo extending the lead to 19-5.

Ben Dalton kept Australia in the game after powering over in the corner, making it 19-10.

Vuiviawa Naduvalo showed why he is the HSBC Series top try scorer after fending off and sidestepping two players to score under the sticks.

Fiji had won all three of their pool games, thrashing Germany 42-5, beating Great Britain 24-10, before edging France 26-24.

Fiji went down 24-17 to Argentina in their Cup quarterfinal.
