Fiji had won all three of their pool games, thrashing Germany 42-5, beating Great Britain 24-10, before edging France 26-24.
Fiji went down 24-17 to Argentina in their Cup quarterfinal.
In other games, Kenya thumped France 21-7 to claim 7th place, South Africa beat New Zealand 26-14 in the first semifinal, while Argentina defeated Spain 19-12 in the second semifinal.
South Africa will play Argentina in the Cup final at 11.14 tonight.
