Heavy Rain Warning in force for Fiji

A Heavy Rain Warning is now in force for Fiji as an active trough of low pressure gradually moves eastwards towards the country.

The Nadi Weather Office says cloud and rain associated with the system are already affecting parts of Fiji and are expected to continue impacting the group until later tomorrow.

They say occasional rain will become frequent and heavy from later today, accompanied by thunderstorms.

The Weather Office says conditions are expected to gradually improve in the western parts of the country by around midday tomorrow.

They say heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying areas, including informal settlements, businesses and Irish crossings, which could result in traffic disruptions.

There is also a risk of surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage systems.
