A Heavy Rain Alert is in force for the whole of Fiji, with several roads and crossings in the Central, Western and the Northern currently flooded and inaccessible.

The Fiji Roads Authority says that in the Central Division, Wainadiro Village Road in Serua is closed due to a complete roadway washout.

In the Western Division, Nadelei Crossing 4 on Nadelei Road in Rakiraki, Nasaucoko Culvert Crossing and Nasaucoko Culvert on Nasaucoko Road in Sigatoka, and Nukuilau Crossing on Valley Road in Sigatoka are all flooded, while Queens Road at Semo Village is closed, with an alternative route available.

In Labasa, Qelemumu Crossing on Coqeloa Road, Nakama Crossing on Naduna Road, Nakelikoso Road, Qawa Crossing, Kawakawavesi Crossing on Kawakawavesi Road, Vunivere Crossing, Lalakoro Crossing 2 on Lalakoro Road, Naqumu Crossing on Naqumu Road, and Nasigasiga Crossing 2 on Nasigasiga Nabitu Road are closed and inaccessible.

Meanwhile, the Nadi Weather Office says there will be occasional rain, heavy at times, and isolated thunderstorms over the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Yasawa, Mamanuca, and the north-eastern parts of Viti Levu, including Tavua, Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and Tailevu North.

They say that a trough of low pressure, with associated cloud, showers, and rain, is expected to affect the country until Saturday.

People can expect flash flooding in flood-prone low-lying informal settlements and communities, as well as businesses and Irish crossings, leading to traffic disruptions.

There may also be surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage.
