Heavy Rain Alert in force for Fiji

A Heavy Rain Alert is now in force for Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office says an active trough of low pressure, associated with cloud and rain north of Fiji, is gradually moving southwards towards the country.

The system is expected from tomorrow until later on Wednesday.

The Weather Office says rain is likely to become frequent and heavy, along with thunderstorms.

Possible impacts include flash flooding in flood-prone and low-lying informal settlements, communities and businesses, as well as Irish crossings, leading to traffic disruptions.

Surface flooding is also expected on streets in urban areas with poor drainage.

Drivers are being warned that wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours may create hazardous driving conditions, and extra caution is advised while travelling.
