France and Senegal remain deadlocked at nil-all in their FIFA World Cup Group I opener in New Jersey, with both sides creating chances but unable to find a breakthrough in a tense contest.

Third-ranked France has seen more of the ball and has looked threatening through captain Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, but Senegal's defence has held firm to keep the score level.

Senegal has also posed a threat going forward, using its pace and counterattacking ability to test the French backline as it looks to repeat its famous upset victory over France at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

The match has lived up to expectations so far, with both teams showing attacking intent in their bid to secure an important result in the opening Group I fixture.

France entered the tournament as one of the favourites to win the World Cup, while Senegal arrived determined to prove it can compete with the world's top football nations.

The winner of the clash will take an early advantage in Group I, which also includes Iraq and Norway.

Meanwhile in other matches, Iraq will face Norway at 10am, Argentina will meet Algeria at 1pm while Austria will face Jordan at 4pm.
