FRA aware of calls for more street lights in Cunningham, raises vandalism concerns

The Fiji Roads Authority says it is aware of calls from Cunningham residents for more street lights, but says vandalism and the theft of wires from existing poles are making it difficult to keep some lights working.

FRA says inspections have found that wires from some street light poles have been stolen, while other equipment has been vandalised.

They say replacing damaged or stolen equipment is costly.

FRA says it understands residents' concerns and the importance of street lighting for drivers, pedestrians and the wider community.

They say there are about 210 street lights in the Cunningham area, with another 18 poles planned between the RFMF Engineers Bridge and the Cunningham intersection near Rewa Dairy.

They add that the project began in 2024, with 96 standalone poles fitted with LED lights installed from the Princes Road junction to the RFMF Engineers Bridge.

FRA is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any vandalism or theft of street light equipment to police or FRA.
