Fijiana survive Brazil scare to seal thrilling 28-24 win

The Fiji Airways Fijiana side produced a thrilling performance against Brazil, holding firm under pressure to claim a 28-24 win in their final pool match.

Fiji struck first when  Atelaite Ralivanawa pounced on a loose ball from the Brazilians to open the scoring. However, Brazil hit back quickly to level the contest just minutes later.

Reapi Ulunisau then crossed over to restore Fiji’s lead at 12-7, but Brazil responded with sustained pressure and multiple phases to draw level again, sending both teams into halftime tied at 14-14.

The Brazilians came out strong in the second half, scoring two quick tries to surge ahead 25-14. Ulunisau once again stepped up for Fiji, scoring to bring the deficit back to 24-21.

With momentum shifting, Fiji dug deep and found another crucial try to complete the comeback and survive a fierce Brazilian challenge, sealing a hard-fought 28-24 victory.

The Women's Cup quarter-finals are set to commence at 1:30am today.

In other results Spain defeated Great Britan 29-10, USA beat Canada 33-22 and Australia defeated Japan 26-7.
