The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side suffered a 19-7 defeat to Australia in a hard-fought Pool B clash.
Australia took control early, with Faith Nathan crossing for two tries in the opening half to give her side a commanding lead.
Fijiana responded through Mariana Talatoka, whose blistering pace saw her break through the Australian defense to score and narrow the margin to 12-7.
However, Australia struck again before the break, adding another try to take a 19-7 advantage into halftime.
Fijiana showed resilience in the second half, producing a strong defensive display that kept the Australians scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Despite their efforts, Fiji was unable to add to its tally.
Fijiana will now face Brazil in their final Pool B encounter at 11:32pm tonight.
The women’s Cup quarter-finals are set to commence at 1:30am tomorrow, with the semi-finals scheduled for 10:30pm.
The tournament final will be played at 3:04am on Monday.
